LMF II Survival Knife - Full Review

Gerber knives was started in 1939 by Joseph Gerber, a man who had a vision to design innovative knives, made from the finest quality materials, that would last for a lifetime. Joseph would be pleased to know that his vision is alive and well today as these knives are known for their craftsmanship, attention to detail and dependability.
Over time, they have expanded their product lines to included a variety of knives, lights, tools and other rugged gear.
One of the company’s signature product lines is their survival knives. For the discerning adventurer, the LMF II line of knives represents an amazing value and is comparable in quality to many knives costing two or three times more.
To design the LMF II knife, former soldier Jeff Freeman was asked to engineer a knife that would stand up to every day military use and be an exceptional general survival knife.
Today, the Gerber LMF II knife is loved by a wide gamut of military and law enforcement professionals as well as sportsmen and campers and those that just want a manly knife around the house.
The LMF line of knives was upgraded and is now called the LMF II line. This knife comes in several versions which include:
LMF II Infantry
The Gerber LMF II Infantry survival knife comes in three colors: black, coyote brown and green. It is the same shape, weight and dimensional size as its more prominent big brothers. The Gerber LMF II Infantry is also listed in many places as the same price as the Survival yet the LMF Survival knife is listed as having several appealing upgrades.

LMF II Survival
Slots of fun app. The Gerber LMF II Survival knife comes in only one color: coyote brown and looks identical to the Infantry, however, it has an upgraded handle and grip. The LMF II Survival also ships with a sheath that resists flames, just in case you get too close to the campfire or have to cut your way out of a burning helicopter or Humvee.

LMF II ASEK
The Gerber LMF II ASEK survival knife comes in only one color: green. There seems to be some mystery about the specifications and features of this knife which has caused confusion. Availability of the Gerber LMF II ASEK survival knife at the time of this writing seems to be limited.
Some sites claim that the LMF II ASEK it is discontinued, yet the Gerber continues to list it with their other LMF II series survival knives. It appears that the main differences between the Gerber LMF II ASEK and the LMF II Survival are that the ASEK knife ships with a strap cutter in addition to a safety knife.
Another noteworthy difference is that the handle is rumored to be made out of compounds that make it resistant to infra-red detection.. although Gerber does not make this claim on their web site.
All three of these capable knives are engineered with three holes for lashing them to a pole or branch to extend their use as a spear.
Reviews for all three models in the Gerber LMF II knife line are very high. There are lots of “happy campers” out there. If you want a great all-around survival knife that’s made in the good ol’ USA that will likely last for a good long while, you can’t go wrong with a Gerber LMF II series blade.

Prodigy
The Gerber Prodigy was Inspired by the Gerber LMF II line of survival knives, the Gerber Prodigy was designed to military specs and is MIRS compliant.. meaning they meet the requirements to be purchased and use by the military.
The Gerber Prodigy offers many of the features of its bigger brothers, yet in a smaller, lightweight and more affordable package.
The Gerber Prodigy comes in two versions.. the original Prodigy and the newer Prodigy Tanto. Both are made in the USA.
